Influence of the degree of adherence to the mediterranean diet and its components on cardiometabolic risk during pregnancy. The GESTAFIT project

Background and aimsStudies regarding dietary patterns cardiometabolic risk markers during pregnancy are scarce. The aim of the present study was to analyse whether different degrees adherence Mediterranean diet (MD) MD components were associated with a clustered pregnancy.Methods resultsThis comprised 119 pregnant women from GEStation FITness (GESTAFIT) project. Dietary habits assessed food frequency questionnaire at 16th 34th gestational weeks (g.w.). Diet Score employed assess adherence. following assessed: pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic (DBP), fasting glucose, triglycerides high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). A greater better status in cross-sectional (16th g.w. g.w.) prospective analyses (MD g.w.; SBP, DBP HDL-C; all, p < 0.05). Participants highest (Tertile 3) had lower than those lowest 1) (both, higher intake fruits, vegetables fish refined cereals red meat subproducts (all, 0.05).ConclusionA adherence, showed cardioprotective effect throughout gestation.
